armor of God: more sword of the Spirit

a solemn message from Jesus for Christians at end time.
Six Key commands: do not judge; keep asking, seeking, knocking; the narrow way; you know them by their fruits; I never knew you; build on the rocks. All these are spoken by our Lord and Savior Jesus in Matthew chapter 7. He is talking about entering the kingdom of God and maintaining our heavenly citizenship.

Do Not Judge

“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye?Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

“Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.

Keep Asking, Seeking, Knocking

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone?10 Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? 11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! 12 Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

The Narrow Way

13 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

You Will Know Them by Their Fruits

15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.

I Never Knew You

21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

Build on the Rock

24 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.

26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”

28 And so it was, when Jesus had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching, 29 for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. Jesus Word of God

Healing is for everyone who believes

There is no way for you to lose. Faith in Jesus makes you a winner. More than conquerors in Christ Jesus.

Psalm 27:1-3

The Lord is my light and my salvation;
Whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the strength of my life;
Of whom shall I be afraid?
When the wicked came against me
To eat up my flesh,
My enemies and foes,
They stumbled and fell.
Though an army may encamp against me,
My heart shall not fear;
Though war may rise against me,
In this I will be confident.

Bookshelf: Broken altars and Breakthrough at Sunset

The Apostolic Bookshelf

Broken Altars ‘Broken altars, scattered stones… symbols of a forgotten and hurting God. These crumbled fragments are the pathetic mementoes of a Forsaken love, of broken covenants, dead worship, polluted sacrifices, stifled visions and a longing and angry God. Are these the root of the present increase of earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes and typhoons? Are these the cause behind the menacing invasion of sicknesses, epidemics and pandemics that defy all treatment and cure’Susan Tang

http://www.station-of-life.org/brokenaltars.pdf

(you can download or read online the whole book at this link)

excerpts from the Introduction:___________

May God, in His mercy, forgive us for allowing His altars to lie broken, scattered, desolate and unattended. The heaps of overturned stones look insignificant, but oh, its implications and consequences are horrifying and cannot be contained. These heaps of indistinct rubble expose the root of a nation’s sorrows and misfortune. They also unveil the loss of our soul’s intimacy with God, our sad failure to hold court with Him within the inner recesses of our soul. We have, in spite of our grand outward façade, lost our highest incentive in life, forfeited heaven’s holiest spell and even life itself.

Look at the unrest in the nations. Behold the perversion, the depravity, the meaningless genocides, the invasion of incurable sicknesses and diseases that defy medical treatment and a frothing and convulsing nature spewing out earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes and typhoons, resulting in millions of deaths. Yet, the worst is yet to come because Jesus said that all these are just the beginning of sorrows.

Oh God, let Your strategy of ‘one covering or chasing a thousand’ be activated at once for this is so needful in a time like this. So few want to pray, and fewer still, are those who pray in accuracy. We have failed to pray in accuracy because we have failed to hear from You. God, lead those who do hear, those who do pray, the ones or twos who come together, to heal and to uplift the broken heart of a hurting God.

Will You hear even as You heard Abraham, Samuel and David?   In judgment, remember mercy.   As You make Your wrathful statements especially in Asia through the earthquakes, the tsunamis, typhoons, the menacing invasion of incurable sicknesses, remember Calvary.   Remember that these nations, however depraved, have been bathed by the blood of Jesus.

Oh God, surely Calvary pleased You. We know it did because it is so original, so selfless and oh, so very shocking – even to the devil. Calvary is something that the devil could never imitate. Yes, do not let Calvary go unheeded. For what You did on Calvary can cover many eternities. For Jesus’ sake and for Your own, withhold merciless judgment and let “one cover a thousand, two cover ten thousand.” Shorten the time of suffering, Lord, otherwise, who can be saved?”

DEDICATION This book is lovingly dedicated to all senior citizens and elderly people within the Body of Christ in all nations. God has always associated the aged with honour. He addresses them as the ‘head’ in the nation and has used them as His powerful strategies against the powers of darkness. May His elderly saints live up to His expectation and calling! (Isaiah 9:6)
He has told you to ‘dream dreams,’ to be fruitful and to flourish in your old age, so obey Him! (Psalms 92:14). You are His powerful strategy and His plans can never be completed without you.

dear junior: God has created man to run freely!

dear junior: lately I think of your unhappiness about being temporarily (hopefully until another place is available in an ordinary school) assigned to a rather famous football school and you are determined not to take part in this sport! you said it’s difficult to keep the football still and you fear you may trip over it. you are also unhappy as your classmates are all keen footballers aiming to make the national team for school girls of your age! being unfamiliar with the game you fear you may hamper their chances of representing the school or even the nation…

I think differently. there are many significant positive advantages you already have:

1. you dance. you can still be nimble on your feet if you switch your mind now to dance football instead of swan lake. but it’s no harm to think of dancing the black swan’s powerful dance.

2. your size. you can easily make it as a goal keeper or even one of those whose sole role is to block others from seeing the goal post clearly or getting at the football.

3. your weight. no one will want to be fallen on or even trampled on by you. if I were your classmates I would stay a safe distance goal or no goal.

4. your physical power. the impact of your charging at someone or near someone is not what an ordinary school girl, football champion or not, want to imagine. I have looked at your school mates and found none comparable to your potential powerful impact.

5. you like fun. yes, football is fun. just imagine, a bunch of kids going after a tiny rubber ball all over the green field under the bright sunshine, with the cool wind blowing on them. no boring home work except practicing running around the field. I would love to sit for exam in the fresh airy outdoor for a change!

6. you want to grow up. yes, training in the field makes one grow up a lot. you will have physical and mental fitness, better self control too in emotion!

7. you want to have friends. plenty will come. it is a team game. more fun than dancing ballet.

By the way do you know our Father God enjoys sports? He is our Creator. He created human to run freely in the outdoor. That is why we have such perfect coordination in the body. We are made to do physical activities/exercises. How else do you think Abraham and Sarah managed to walk that far and that long at their rather senior ages? Our Savior Jesus and His disciples walked from place to place, cities, towns, villages.

One day you will be required to walk in very remote places, doing what Jesus and His disciples did. Being a graduate from a football school will go a long way for you…cheer up! God loves you very much. You will be surprised. He will cause all things to work for the good of those who love Him, those who are called according to His purpose!

meanwhile, just enjoy your young life in whatever situation you are in. enjoy the walking and running. enjoy the team work. enjoy the self-discipline. enjoy the outdoor when there is still fresh air. enjoy the sunshine. enjoy the companionship.

p/s: I always think clearer when I walk a long distance…I do better in exam too after that!

Journey to see God: a self-test to check on your God-reality

God’s reality to you

The watchman discovered that, the first pertinent question a believer in God must ask is, “Is my God real?”

If you cannot get pass this question with a straight unhesitating affirmative answer without any qualification, there is no need for you to go further on this journey to see God.
God is God. He is not just anyone we can simply treat according to our mood or feeling or thought.
When you believe your God is real, you will need to ask the next question:
“How am I treating Him and His word?”
If your attitude is sometimes you believe He exists, but sometimes you do not, some words you believe as truth, while others you do not believe as truth, then your God is still not real to you.

Take one minute or five minutes (for those who cannot stop describing God) and do this test yourself:

The rules: without repetition or hesitation.
The act: describe Who God is to you.
First review: check the quantity (how much or how little) you have written down or spoken about the God you know.
Second review: see the description’s quality. Are you describing a lot of self-centered stuff or are you describing God-centered qualities?

After you have discovered how little and how poorly your God is to you, the next step: confess and repent and take actions to set aside more time to know God, through coming into His presence daily, reading His word, praying and talking to Him, listening to Him talking to you.

Learn from KING DAVID, A MAN AFTER GOD’S HEART
Psalm 42:2 (NKJV)

My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When shall I come and appear before God?

Psalm 63:1 (NKJV) Joy in the Fellowship of God
A Psalm of David when he was in the wilderness of Judah.
63 O God, You are my God;
Early will I seek You;
My soul thirsts for You;
My flesh longs for You
In a dry and thirsty land
Where there is no water.
 Psalm 143:6 (NKJV)
I spread out my hands to You;
My soul longs for You like a thirsty land. Selah

For those who have not run out words (in quantity and quality) to describe God, you would want to take a further step of faith, climbing up further on your God’s mountain. Moses was asked to climb higher and higher to meet with God Who was ready to reveal to him more and more of Himself!

THE LORD ACTUALLY ASKS FOR MORE!
Song of Solomon 4:8 (NKJV)
Come with me from Lebanon, my spouse,
With me from Lebanon.
Look from the top of Amana,
From the top of Senir and Hermon,
From the lions’ dens,
From the mountains of the leopards.
God Himself can teach us how to drink from Him, how to pray and how to commune with Him. Jesus has also affirmed this truth!
Isaiah 55:1 (NKJV) An Invitation to Abundant Life
55 “Ho! Everyone who thirsts,
Come to the waters;

And you who have no money,
Come, buy and eat.
Yes, come, buy wine and milk
Without money and without price.
John 7:37-38 (NKJV) The Promise of the Holy Spirit

37 On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”

God wants us be real with His reality in our lives. There is no option.
A word of warning from Jesus to the worldly non-committed church:

Revelation 3:15-16 (NKJV)

15 “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. 16 So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot,[a] I will vomit you out of My mouth.
Footnotes:Revelation 3:16 NU-Text and M-Text read hot nor cold.

Journey to see God -know the covenant God!

The watchman’s journey to see God continues. Today’s message is for all who earnestly seek God. God hears and answers your prayers. Do not give up!

This morning the watchman woke around 4am. For today’s message, he was asked to read Joshua 7. He realized it was not a pleasant message but he obeyed. Indeed it was about how Israel was defeated at Ai after a resounding victory at Jericho. But as he read he understood the reason for this message today.

  1. The Lord is a covenant keeping God.
  2. He wants His people to keep His covenant.
  3. He wants His people to know He is holy and sets apart. His people must know Him in Spirit and in Truth. Only by fully obeying His divine instructions and setting themselves apart from the world and its way then they would be able to know and worship God in Spirit and in Truth.
  4. He shows that when they break covenant with Him they would have no protection from Him, because He would withdraw His presence. They would be no match to their enemies in the spiritual realm no matter how strong they think they are and how weak their enemy seems in the physical realm. They have become “doomed to destruction” (Joshua 7:12).

For Christians, in practical terms, this means:

(A) There are two things to do (as faith in action) before the Lord to keep covenant:

  1. build altar and give sacrifices (ministering to the Lord: in prayers, worship in Spirit and in truth -His words)
  2. read and listen to the word of God (being spoken, read, proclaimed, prayed)

(B) There are two things (the things that break covenant) to avoid doing:

  1. do not hang on to things that the Lord has set apart to destroy (as an offering to the Lord).
  2. do not take the things that the Lord has set apart for His treasury (do not even put them among your own personal belongings! To the Lord that is deliberate hiding). The Lord described this ‘crime’ in Joshua 7:11“Israel has sinned, and they have also transgressed My covenant which I commanded them. For they have even taken some of the accursed things, and have both stolen and deceived; and they have also put it among their own stuff.”
  1. The Result of disobedience to the divine instructions of God: 1. the culprit will be completely destroyed (in this case the person Achan, his family and all his belongings). 2. he will also bring trouble to his nation (36 soldiers from the camp of Israel were killed by the enemy from Ai, which was physically weaker than Israel. The Israelite had 30000 mighty men of valor whereas the entire population of the city of Ai was only 12000! )

RELEVANT VERSE FROM THE WORD OF GOD

(The watchman’s study notes are in brackets, using NKJV verses to illustrate)

The Bible version New Living Translation (NLT) is used here (as led by the Holy Spirit today)

Joshua 6:17-19 Jericho and everything in it must be completely destroyed[a] as an offering to the Lord. Only Rahab the prostitute and the others in her house will be spared, for she protected our spies. 18 “Do not take any of the things set apart for destruction, or you yourselves will be completely destroyed, and you will bring trouble on the camp of Israel. 19 Everything made from silver, gold, bronze, or iron is sacred to the Lord and must be brought into his treasury.”

Footnotes: a. Joshua 6:17 The Hebrew term used here refers to the complete consecration of things or people to the Lord, either by destroying them or by giving them as an offering; similarly in 6:18, 21.

(The divine instruction is clear and specific: on this occasion, the Lord specified a curse and a consecration (a) Curse: the city of Jericho, except for Rehab and all who are with her in her house, be doomed for destruction, it and all who are in it. (Joshua 6:17a) (b) Consecration: all the silver and gold, and vessels of bronze and iron, are consecrated to the Lord; they shall come into the treasury of the Lord. (Joshua 6:19))

Joshua 6:21 They completely destroyed everything in it with their swords—men and women, young and old, cattle, sheep, goats, and donkeys. Joshua 6:24 Then the Israelites burned the town and everything in it. Only the things made from silver, gold, bronze, or iron were kept for the treasury of the Lord’s house.

Joshua 7:1 Ai Defeats the Israelites 7 But Israel violated the instructions about the things set apart for the Lord.[a] A man named Achan had stolen some of these dedicated things, so the Lord was very angry with the Israelites. Achan was the son of Carmi, a descendant of Zimri[b] son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah.

Footnotes:

  1. Joshua 7:1 The Hebrew term used here refers to the complete consecration of things or people to the Lord, either by destroying them or by giving them as an offering; similarly in 7:11, 12, 13, 15.
  2. Joshua 7:1 As in parallel text at 1 Chr 2:6; Hebrew reads Zabdi. Also in 7:17, 18.

(The divine instruction demands 100% compliance: partial compliance is of no effect in the spiritual realm. See the terrible result as follows.)

Joshua 7:4-5 So approximately 3,000 warriors were sent, but they were soundly defeated. The men of Ai 5 chased the Israelites from the town gate as far as the quarries,[a] and they killed about thirty-six who were retreating down the slope. The Israelites were paralyzed with fear at this turn of events, and their courage melted away.

Footnotes:

  1. Joshua 7:5 Or as far as Shebarim.

Joshua 7:12-13 That is why the Israelites are running from their enemies in defeat. For now Israel itself has been set apart for destruction. I will not remain with you any longer unless you destroy the things among you that were set apart for destruction.

(The divine instruction when fully complied will bring the presence of the holy God and victory over the spiritual enemies. Otherwise, mortals are doomed to destruction. Ephesians 6:12 “for we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”)

13 “Get up! Command the people to purify themselves in preparation for tomorrow. For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: Hidden among you, O Israel, are things set apart for the Lord. You will never defeat your enemies until you remove these things from among you.

(The divine instruction says: cleanse your temple! This includes your body, soul -your mind and your emotion- and spirit.)

Joshua 7:25-26 Then Joshua said to Achan, “Why have you brought trouble on us? The Lord will now bring trouble on you.” And all the Israelites stoned Achan and his family and burned their bodies. 26 They piled a great heap of stones over Achan, which remains to this day. That is why the place has been called the Valley of Trouble[a] ever since. So the Lord was no longer angry.

Footnotes:

  1. Joshua 7:26 Hebrew valley of Achor.

Joshua 8:30-32 The Lord’s Covenant Renewed 30 Then Joshua built an altar to the Lord, the God of Israel, on Mount Ebal. 31 He followed the commands that Moses the Lord’s servant had written in the Book of Instruction: “Make me an altar from stones that are uncut and have not been shaped with iron tools.”[a] Then on the altar they presented burnt offerings and peace offerings to the Lord. 32 And as the Israelites watched, Joshua copied onto the stones of the altar[b] the instructions Moses had given them.

Footnotes:

  1. Joshua 8:31 Exod 20:25; Deut 27:5-6.
  2. Joshua 8:32 Hebrew onto the stones.

Joshua 8:33-35 Then all the Israelites—foreigners and native-born alike—along with the elders, officers, and judges, were divided into two groups. One group stood in front of Mount Gerizim, the other in front of Mount Ebal. Each group faced the other, and between them stood the Levitical priests carrying the Ark of the Lord’s Covenant. This was all done according to the commands that Moses, the servant of the Lord, had previously given for blessing the people of Israel.

34 Joshua then read to them all the blessings and curses Moses had written in the Book of Instruction. 35 Every word of every command that Moses had ever given was read to the entire assembly of Israel, including the women and children and the foreigners who lived among them.

(The divine instruction is practical: Joshua followed exactly according to what Moses had written. Every word and every command was read and reaffirmed. He demonstrated to the entire congregation by his faithful and obedient deed: build the altar, copy the covenant, read the entire word of God.)

(In summary, Joshua believed and practiced the entire word of God, according to what the Lord has instructed him at the beginning of his take over of national leadership from Moses. Joshua 1:8 “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”)

Watchman, Know your God intimately!

the Holy Spirit is our Bible Teacher

Watchman’s October 2012 notes:

This has been one of the watchman’s most frequented posts for the last 2 years. Many actually yearn for intimate relationship with God, our Creator, our Father in heaven. In this world of constant change, increasing isolation and separation from God, due to man’s increasing coldness and hardening of hearts, lawlessness, self-seeking, presumptions, covetousness (which is idolatry) and passion for the wisdom of the world (which according to James 3:15 is earthly, sensual and demonic.), many are crying out to the Almighty God who hears and answers.

How to re-build or start an intimate relationship with a God whom you do not even know?

The watchman has learned this (from experience and encounter with the Father in heaven since 1983, the year when he was born again by the Holy Spirit):

  1. start today.
  2. be still before Him.
  3. believe He exists.
  4. believe He wants to reward you, when you seek Him diligently.
  5. believe that He is pleased with your faith (in Him and His Son Jesus)
  6. believe in all His word, in the Bible.
  7. read the Bible.
  8. pray.
  9. spend more and more time with God.
  10. let go of more and more of the things of the world. When your hands are full of them you have no hands to receive anything from the Father in heaven!
  11. do not love this world, nor the things it offers you. (1 John 2:15)

Practical steps:

  1. keep your mind and body in stillness before the Lord.
  2. be open to the Holy Spirit. Do not let your feeling or mind interfere.
  3. take a note book.
  4. write down your question and listen for answer.
  5. the voice of the Lord will come in the still small voice in your inner part.
  6. write down His answer. (He may answer you in the inner voice or in His written words)
  7. discern whether the answer is from your own mind (e.g. thoughts/obsessions you have been thinking regularly lately prior to the session) or emotion or the enemy (evil spirits: e.g. destructive thoughts)
  8. discard those not from the Holy Spirit.

Hebrews 11:6 Amplified Bible (AMP)

But without faith it is impossible to please and be satisfactory to Him. For whoever would come near to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that He is the rewarder of those who earnestly and diligently seek Him [out].
