One healed restored mind: emotive-cognitive behavioral functioning

jesus healed the mind
Jesus heals and restores sound mind

Many Christians find that not all who are suffering from challenges in their mind are healed from the symptoms and the causes thereof.
Why? This is a question that really bothers those who practice divine healing. Why do mental patients seem to find it harder to receive healing? Are there scriptural evidences that mental conditions that torment a person may be healed like that of physical conditions? If so, where are the evidences in the Bible? This is our topic today. Christianity is all about effective successful functioning living in the power of God and His words (life and spirit. John 6:63) for all who believe.

Let us read the following Bible verses (God’s words) with a heart that is opened to the Lord’s Spirit. Here is a brief summary of key positive healing words for all believers I find from the verses: They refer to our thought life and our own behavior. What we put in our heart and actually come out. Evidences of our inner lives that others can see.
One mind. Sympathize. Love. tenderhearted. humble attitude. bless and not curse or seek revenge. speak no evil (it also means do no evil. speaking is equivalent to doing). turn away from evil. do good. seek peace. work to maintain peace.
worship Christ as Lord of your life. Gentle, respectful, keep your conscience free.

The two keys to living a powerful Kingdom of God life: Living the life in the Spirit, and the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

1 Peter 3:8-22 (NLT)
All Christians
8 Finally, all of you should be of one mind. Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters.[a] Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude. 9 Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and he will grant you his blessing. 10 For the Scriptures say,

“If you want to enjoy life
and see many happy days,
keep your tongue from speaking evil
and your lips from telling lies.
11 Turn away from evil and do good.
Search for peace, and work to maintain it.
12 The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right,
and his ears are open to their prayers.
But the Lord turns his face
against those who do evil.”[b]

Suffering for Doing Good
13 Now, who will want to harm you if you are eager to do good? 14 But even if you suffer for doing what is right, God will reward you for it. So don’t worry or be afraid of their threats.

15 Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it. 16 But do this in a gentle and respectful way.[c] Keep your conscience clear. Then if people speak against you, they will be ashamed when they see what a good life you live because you belong to Christ.

17 Remember, it is better to suffer for doing good, if that is what God wants, than to suffer for doing wrong!

18 Christ suffered[d] for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners to bring you safely home to God. He suffered physical death, but he was raised to life in the Spirit.[e]

19 So he went and preached to the spirits in prison— 20 those who disobeyed God long ago when God waited patiently while Noah was building his boat. Only eight people were saved from drowning in that terrible flood.[f] 21 And that water is a picture of baptism, which now saves you, not by removing dirt from your body, but as a response to God from[g] a clean conscience. It is effective because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

22 Now Christ has gone to heaven. He is seated in the place of honor next to God, and all the angels and authorities and powers accept his authority.

Paul’s Prayer for Spiritual Wisdom
Ephesians 1:15 Ever since I first heard of your strong faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for God’s people everywhere,[e] 16 I have not stopped thanking God for you. I pray for you constantly, 17 asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom[f] and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God. 18 I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.[g]

19 I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power 20 that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms. 21 Now he is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or anything else—not only in this world but also in the world to come. 22 God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church. 23 And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself.

Mark 6:46-56 : Jesus says “Take courage! I am here!”

Often we cannot receive the immediate solution to our physiological and mental issues because our hearts have become hardened in regard to spiritual matters. Why are our hearts so hard? The original word for ‘hard’ describes callus: An area of the skin that has become hardened and thick, usually because of prolonged pressure or rubbing. Often we develop unseen numbing callus in our mind and emotion after many rubbing of pains and torments. The hardening prevents us from receiving the healing that comes within us, through our spirit.

Jesus says that our hearts can be hardened to the point that we cannot receive what He has already given to us through our spirit. Even His disciples had this problem too as we read the famous passage below.

How to end our hardness? Jesus says, “Don’t be afraid, take courage! I am here!”

Being afraid of the circumstances and the seemingly bad symptoms cripple and numb us into inertia. Reading the testimonies of the healed ones we see one common key success factor: they have not succumbed to inertia. They got up from their bed and fought on and maintained normal functioning (with the supernatural power that Jesus has given them through faith) until the symptoms had no choice but to leave them for good.

Again, the key is not to be afraid. Just believe in Him, what He says.

Mark 6:46-56 New Living Translation (NLT)

46 After telling everyone good-bye, he went up into the hills by himself to pray.

47 Late that night, the disciples were in their boat in the middle of the lake, and Jesus was alone on land. 48 He saw that they were in serious trouble, rowing hard and struggling against the wind and waves. About three o’clock in the morning[a] Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. He intended to go past them, 49 but when they saw him walking on the water, they cried out in terror, thinking he was a ghost. 50 They were all terrified when they saw him.

But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage! I am here![b] 51 Then he climbed into the boat, and the wind stopped. They were totally amazed, 52 for they still didn’t understand the significance of the miracle of the loaves. Their hearts were too hard to take it in.

53 After they had crossed the lake, they landed at Gennesaret. They brought the boat to shore 54 and climbed out. The people recognized Jesus at once, 55 and they ran throughout the whole area, carrying sick people on mats to wherever they heard he was. 56 Wherever he went—in villages, cities, or the countryside—they brought the sick out to the marketplaces. They begged him to let the sick touch at least the fringe of his robe, and all who touched him were healed.

Today’s healing word: Be set Free!

Today’s healing word is be “Free”. Be free and be in divine health.

In John chapter eight, Jesus talks about how to be set free. Only Jesus can set free. Jesus is the Truth, the Son of God. The Truth sets a believer free from sins, free from sickness and disease,, free from oppressions and depressions, free from all bondages (body, soul, and spirit).

The Truth Shall Make You Free. Jesus is the Truth.

31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

33 They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, ‘You will be made free’?”

34 Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. 35 And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever.

36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

Romans 8:1 [ Free from Indwelling Sin ] There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

Colossians 3:10-12 New King James Version (NKJV) 10 and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him, 11 where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all.

12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering;  hands raised

How to deal with your broken heart (step 5): believe that you can be healed!

Here are more excerpts from the above healing book for the emotionally hurting. I am led in my spirit to publish step 5 (excerpts only) this round. I pray you too will find the gems here encourage you to get hold of the whole book and read many times. Believe that you can be healed!

___________Excerpts: (my own remarks or summary are in brackets)

We find it easier and more natural to believe in the dark side of things and in the negative side of life than in the bright and positive side of things.

I know that when I can get people to believe in the positive, more than half the battle is won.

THOSE WHO ARE HURTING MUST BELIEVE THAT THEY CAN COME OUT OF IT AND THAT THEY CAN RISE ABOVE THOSE HURTS. If you think otherwise, you are fighting a losing battle and you will not find emotional wholeness.

The story of the epileptic boy in Matthew 17 is a very touching one. The Lord Jesus Christ raised a challenging and heart-searching question (in reply to the father who sought healing for his son from Jesus) in His reply, saying, “If thou can believe!” Immediately the man dropped on his knees and cried out, “I believe! Help Thou my unbelief!”

What the man was saying in actual fact, I believe, was this, “O Lord, I do believe but my human believing is so week, it seems to still contain an element of unbelief, Therefor my believing and my faith need Your divine support.”

This, then, is the condition of all our hearts. Doubts even in the midst of our faith!

It was during my years of church planting and pioneering that I personally came to understand the meaning of this verse and the condition of my own heart…I was like a fountain that was spurting out both hot and cold water at the same time. I had faith to sever from the “established past”, so to speak, and yet has no faith to move wholeheartedly into the future.

Ask God to help you believe…

We must take the Word of the Lord literally…

If you find yourself in this (belief-unbelief) situation while seeking for emotional healing, just say, “Lord, I will not be discouraged and I thank You for healing me. Help me to go through this period of feeling so ‘unhealed’.”

It is the fact that we must confess and think about, not the feelings. The fact is that God has promised to heal us and we have been healed by His (Jesus’) stripes. We must then apply this healing to ourselves.

I remember helping another sister through a very difficult time. She had woken me up at about three in the morning. with tear-filled eyes, she told me that she could not sleep after reading from the newspaper that evening that her former boyfriend was going to marry another woman, an air hostess. This was so strange because they had split up about four years ago and she had, through all these years, continued to live a vibrant and active life.

“But when I read that announcement…all those hurt feelings came back…My mind keeps remembering those old times…”

This is true. When our minds bring back the memories, they also bring back the feelings, whether good or bad.

In my own experience…I immediately reach out to God and pray, “I claim the blood of Jesus Christ over all of these hurting memories and I rebuke these mental and emotional oppressions in the name of Jesus.” God in His mercy and love has not failed failed me once.

Very often, Satan…will draw my attention to familiar sights and similar looking people and remind me, “Doesn’t this man look like him? Look, he is smiling at you in the same way that ______ used to smile at you!” “This is the same type of perfume and chocolate he used to buy you” or “This was the coffee house you both came to so many years ago.”

And I have, unashamedly, run and turned to Him (God) at all odd times and in odd places. In toilets, in the supermarkets, in the kitchen while stirring a cup of coffee, in an airplane, in the hair saloon with my head under a blower, under the shower, in the midst of a facial etc. Anytime, anywhere, whenever the hurtful memories strike, I just reach out to Him, Who alone is my healing balm…

(Back to the story about the hurting woman)..I told her that the Lord has definitely healed her of that past hurt and that those lousy feelings would not stay if she was determined not to let them stay.

“Rebuke them and do not let Satan bring back the past memories and ugly hurt feelings to rob you of the reality of God’s healing. You don’t have to let these mental and emotional oppressions stay.”

I told her to begin to concentrate on the facts – this man was not in God’s plan for her life -to be able to accept this helps in the healing of hurts. Also, four years ago, she had already with God that she would release him ans God had already healed her of that emotional hurt and trauma.

Praise God, my friend cooperated and she allowed the facts, not her feelings, to take hold of her that night. The next morning she was as good as new.

The apostel Paul told the church of Philippi that they must by God’s power, discipline their minds to think of the things that positive. This means our minds can actually be trained to dwell on things we want them to.

Yes, God is more than able to heal your broken-heartedness…Believe because this is the truth: Jesus Christ is more than able to heal you and help you rise above those hurts in life. (to be continued)

How to deal with your broken heart 3: the humor amidst the tears

How to deal with your broken heart 3: the humor amidst the tears (by Susan Tang)

I came across this author (pastor, church planter, prophet, Bible teacher, watchman/intercessor) and her teaching about five years ago. I attended a number of her seminars (all with not a dull moment). I bought all her books and read most of them, as the Spirit led me. She teaches with passion for the word of God. Her passion is infectious. But I have noted some qualities in her for young disciples of Jesus to emulate: honesty, integrity, courage and boldness, authority and power, that come from a life of living before God.

In this book, she wrote from her personal experience with the objective to heal and set free those who are hurting. However, I have read with a smile from time to time. Susan is known for her genuine human character too, her great sense of humor! I have put together some excerpts (at random) here from the book reflecting this human aspect. I believe you will smile too when you picture those incidents which had been so vividly described!

_________________

As a pastor, I had to share many experiences of hurt and heart-brokenness. Out of all these experiences, there were two that wounded me very deeply. Both of these incidents happened when I was still very young as a person and very inexperienced as a pastor. I did not really know how to handle hurts, whether on my own or others. I went to an excellent Bible School but unfortunately, I was not taught how to handle hurts. I do not believe this can be taught in the classroom….

The second experience of a broken heart concerned my housemate (Joelin)…She came to my bedroom one night, dropped herself, all 138 pounds, onto my lap and then started to sob and cry hysterically.

I held her (thinking her appendix had ruptured as she ha complained of suspected appendicitis sometimes back) and didn’t really know what to do until her younger sister, Bina, came in and told me point-blank, “That bastard Roger left her for another girl!” “Oh?” I replied. Tears started to trickle down my cheeks all the way to Joelin’s back. I couldn’t free myself to get any tissue; she had nailed me down with her 138 pounds. Bina also started crying, holding and pulling art my right leg. I did not mind the holding but I hated the pulling and rubbing her wet nose against it. Before I could tell her to stop, the youngest of the sisters, Linda, came in, held onto my other leg and did exactly the same thing!

Now after almost 12 years (31 years ago from present day), as I write about it, it seems so hilarious – four women crying themselves crazy just because one had a lousy boyfriend who got away! Sometimes women were so cooperative! At the time it happened, it was not funny. I hurt like mad for Joelin, so much so that I did not even go to work for the next two days. I was afraid she would commit suicide…

Three years later when I met Bina, who had by then already married, she told me the sad news, “Joelin is terrible. She has hurt my mom so badly…she is like the town’s prostitute.”..

Poor Joelin. One bad man called Roger hurt her and she was left wounded for life. But is it really true that life comes to an end for a person when his or her romance or marriage fails?…HOW DOES ONE COME OUT OF IT?

As Christians, we also need to truthfully ask ourselves this question: Has God left us any resources in our quest for emotional healing and wholeness? The glad answer is YES! An absolute YES! The Lord Jesus Christ is more than able to heal the broken-hearted. But we must cooperate with Him. There is definitely something we can do for ourselves in our quest for emotional healing…

STEP 1: STOP BELIEVING THE DEVIL’S LIES.

Lie 1 – “If Michael walks out on me, I’ll commit suicide for I have no reason to go on living.”

Or “If Jean leaves, I’ll die for I really cannot do without her.”

This is a lie…we are not to make another human person the sole reason for our existence..This then is the truth: GOD ALONE IS TO BE THE ULTIMATE REFERENCE POINT IN OUR LIVES, THE SOLE REASON FOR OUR EXISTENCE.

Certainly, the sense of loss, of lack and worthlessness will be there. But these feelings need not stay for good…Satan will fight to keep you in bondage to these feelings…but Satan is a liar who has no choice but to let go if you resist him steadfastly.

Lie 2 – “I don’t think I can ever love again.”

To confess such a thing is in reality to say something like this: “The past is too powerful to be forgotten and I cannot be cleansed from its influence.” Or “God is so limited. He has only given me just one person in this great big universe with whom I can be happy…”

I had a friend who was like this…she had one broken relationship and it robbed her almost totally of all joys and the meaning of living. (She stayed away from almost every place where men could be found and where she could be reminded of …the man who left her. Places included: camps, bookstores and supermarkets that sell wedding or engagement cards, even babies!). (to be continued)

(Healed Good News updated 9/9/14) A personal testimony on divine healing from this blogger

by his wounds you were healedHealed Good News updated on 9/9/14: further to the following update, here is more good news. In March and again in early September this year this blogger went through symptoms that included excruciating pain. The symptoms obstructed sitting or lying down. It lasted about three weeks in March. This round it lasted less than two days as I knew better this round and used every coping ways (which I had previously learned) as follows. I actually delayed for nine hours before I started focusing on the healing verses and started listening to the Bible verses when a sister (from across the ocean) reminded me! The verses immediately took effect and within four hours my conditions improved significantly! Our God is real and His Word is life and spirit for us.

Here are the steps which I used to overcome:

  1. listen to the healing verses repeatedly;
  2. say amen and agree to the verses aloud;
  3. proclaim those verses as led by the Holy Spirit;
  4. praise and give thanks to God and let the joy of the Lord give me strength;
  5. persist the above and live normally doing chores just if I wasn’t suffering physically;
  6. do not talk about it or proclaim (thereby strengthening) the adversities;
  7. believe that Jesus has healed me two thousands years ago and hold fast to this truth.

Good News of healed updated on 5/2/14: further to the following, I advise that after the believers’ prayer and agreement in one Spirit, a month ago, the bleeding from the breast of a teen girl stopped instantly ever since. Prayer of faith was recently given to a young woman with an issue of blood after the birth of her first born. The recent two cases led us to wake to the truth that God wants suffering women (as in the case of the woman with an issue of blood for twelve years) to receive His healing provision which was already given by Jesus for having redeemed us from the curse by being hung on the wooden cross (1 Peter 2:24, Galatians 3:13). The curse on Eve at the fall was forever broken. It was settled in heaven! Praise God! ______________

updated on 4/28/14: Further to my following update, I advise that I have encountered more revelations on this subject of living by faith and not by sight. The following account is based on a real life experience. I pray it will encourage many who are seeking God’s mighty power to manifest in their lives too.

I attended a small traditional Christian evangelical cell group meeting, with the missionary pastor, his wife (with an infant boy), some local native believers, and a local evangelical worker. The host was a lady in her sixties who suffered for months after a stroke that crippled one side of her body. They had never encountered the work of the Holy Spirit or applied the truth of the full gospel that by Jesus’ atonement on the cross He took our sins as well as our diseases and curses. They desire to live victoriously just as the disciples and believers did in the book of Acts.

After the end of the evangelical cell group meeting the lady wanted to be prayed on. So we prayed. This time we prayed at length in the Spirit and then we prayed for her. The Lord’s Spirit led us and we sang praises, we spoke and proclaimed words of Scripture, we gave thanks, we lifted up the name of Jesus, we sang of the cross of crucifixion and the blood of Jesus, we bound and cast away the spirits of death and infirmities, spirits of lies and fears, and commanded light to shine into the dark room and flood the room and our hearts; then the pastor and one other laid hands on her and proclaimed she healed by the Word sent by the Lord, “By Jesus’ stripes, she was healed!” We commanded in the name of Jesus, that she stood up and walked. She did. The pastor commanded her distorted clenched fist to open and it opened. We received the words of God for her from Psalm 103:1-5 and asked her to proclaim and receive. She did. She spoke those verses daily and gained strength in her legs!

Weeks later I came to this place and attended this cell group again. This time we decided to pray more in the Spirit and indeed the Spirit of Christ moved in us and we praised and gave thanks and worshiped like never before. We prayed the Bible words (notably from Ephesians 3:16-21). The words manifested as spirit and life just as Jesus declared (John 6:63). Some of us started praying for our loved ones to be saved. Then we were led to laid hand on ourselves and claimed healing. All I can say to sum up this experience is : Our God is real and awesome! ————————————————————

Updated on 4/15/14:  Further to the testimony that I wrote below (8/18/13), I would add that I have continued to walk in divine health from day to day. In 2014 I had been hit since the first day of January with various (some physically really unpleasant) symptoms. Some could be got rid of on the spot by a simple prayer; some took weeks to overcome. What I have learned is the following steps the enemy usually tries:

1. appearance of symptoms of a disease or infirmity which can be identified to ‘link’ to medical causes or natural causes (like a nasty fall).

2. increase in intensity of symptoms, which hinder daily living.

3. fear appears.

4. when fear comes in, anxiety, oppression, depression and many other demons follow suit.

5. Action: continue to walk by faith and not by sight or feelings or even thoughts. Focus on the unseen God and His accomplished work (by Jesus on the cross) and not on the seen (symptoms).

God always confirms His Word. Proclaim His Word.

8/18/2013 This is the wake up call today. I just completed watching testimonies of a number of healing sessions during which many were healed. Yet, some Christians were not healed. I am led in my spirit to share my personal experience in healing here. I pray that readers will be encouraged to seek the Lord for your own divine healing answers.

(NB: Because this is a personal testimony I need to use the word ‘I’ quite a lot here). I learned of divine healing and divine health about five years ago.

I personally believe that just as the Bible has declared, God is the Healer. The healing comes through the name of Jesus (the only source of authority), and the might of God (the Holy Spirit). The Bible declares that God sent His word and healed them (the sick). I too have believed God’s healing through Jesus (by whose stripes we were healed) is a done deal. It happened two thousands years ago, through Jesus, just as the prophet Isaiah had prophesied. The symptoms I used to suffer (some of which many years, since teen) included: allergy, back injury, shoulder pain, and some chronic conditions which required regular daily intake of medicine. By faith, I have stopped all my medicine, at various stages, about three-four years ago.

Have I been healed? Yes. I believe I have been healed because the Bible says so.

How do I function? I function normally and well. I live divine in quite a number of things now. I am considered above average fit and healthy compared to others of my age. When whatever periodical ‘sickness’ season is on, I can be sure that I no longer catch anything like the others tend to do. My weight has reduced and now maintains itself well on an optimal healthy level. Eye witnesses commented that my external appearance has improved significantly compared with the time when I depended on medicine.

Do I need to be on any special healthy lifestyle like: special diet, regular exercise, fixed number of sleep, meals, vitamins, health food and supplement etc.? No. I just follow the Holy Spirit. One thing I notice is that I have lost desires or cravings for anything excessive. I live happily based on Bible advice on healthy lifestyle. One great advice from apostle Paul to Timothy is, “Now godliness with contentment is great gain…And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.” (1 Timothy 4:6.8)

Do I still have symptoms? Very rarely.

What did I do when the symptoms appeared or seemed to be appearing? I commanded them to go. And they left.

Did the ‘symptoms’ consist of physical and/or mental/mood conditions? Yes, both. In both cases I commanded them to go and they left.

The physical ‘symptoms’ were easier to manage. The mental/mood ‘symptoms’ (feelings) took a bit of time but left when I was alerted in my spirit and commanded them to go. The thoughts (for example, sadness for no apparent reasons) in the mind could be subtle and it took practice to detect where the thoughts originated and why they were suddenly there. Of course, the moment I detected them I merely commanded them to go. And they left almost instantly most times. In cases when they were merely transferred spirits from ‘patients’ I bound the spirits and cast them away. They left. The mood changed back to my usual normal self.

Why are some people not healed? I just read a blog and felt that I must write on this question.

She has believed in healing but she is not yet healed. She wrote. She is positive about it. She still proclaims the words of healing.

None of us humans is qualified to say why someone is not healed. I am led to read the words of God to find some answers for myself. I pray that the Lord gives you your answers too and I encourage you to read the Bible and ask the Holy Spirit to give you understanding. Remember: God wants you well!

  1. Know and proclaim your beloved position as a child of God in God’s kingdom. There is no condemnation for you in Christ Jesus. Nothing can separate you from God’s love for you. Romans 8
  2. Believe in the unseen. God created and framed the worlds by the unseen. Hebrews 11
  3. Walk according to the Spirit and not according to the flesh. Sons of God are led by the Spirit of Christ. Romans 8
  4. The Holy Spirit will explain all things to you, even things concerning your future. John 14:16-17, 26; 15:26; 16:13-15; 1 Corinthians 2
  5. You can be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. You can put on the whole armor of God and stand against the wiles of the devil. Ephesians 6:10-11
  6. The exceedingly great and mighty power of God is already working in you. Jesus has given you His authority over diseases, demons, and whatever that is from this world (including thoughts in your mind) that hinder you from knowing God and the things that God has given you. You are sons of God, and sons of God can destroy the works of the devil on you. Ephesians 1:19; Matthew 10:1, 18; Luke 10:19; Mark 16:17-18; 2 Corinthians 10:4-5; 1 John 3:8b; read the whole of Ephesians for your heavenly position in Christ who is seated in the place of power on the right hand of God. Copy down the prayers in this book and pray them daily.
  7. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. Philippians 4:13

How to deal with your broken heart and rise above your hurt? (Preface)

how to deal with your broken heart 2

PREFACE: WHY I WROTE THIS BOOK (excerpts/summary from book by Pastor Susan Tang))

Actually I wrote this book for a number of reasons. The number one reason is that I am weary. I am weary from being confronted by so many broken-hearted people and weary with having to repeat the same counsel time and time again. “Hurts are sometimes almost tangible and definitely contagious.”

A few years ago after I started a women’s ministry in my church, I was suddenly plunged into a world of hurting women. Some were hurting and helpless, some were hurting and revengeful, some were hurting and demonic, some were hurting and confused, and some were hurting and had become both impenetrable and weird!

How is it that the world is so full of hurting women? And hurting men? Although we had advertised in the local papers that the HELPLINE was only for women, men called up, and one shouted at me when I told him that the HELPLINE was for women only.

What the ***! Don’t you know we men hurt too? …How come you help women and not men?” I had no answer, so I had to replace the receiver and unhook the phone for a while…

Since the women ministry started here in…years ago, I have been writing articles and giving talks on this subject on how to rise above our hurts and heart-brokenness. Letters have come and women have asked for more… I enjoyed doing this at first but after …years, I decided that I should stop. Then somebody said, “You have stopped teaching, but people have not stopped hurting.”

This is so true. So why not bring all the articles together and rewrite them? This is how this book came about and this is why I wrote this book.

When God brings us through experiences like hurts, He definitely has a purpose. He wants us to grow up spiritually…I am also grateful to people, for it is from people, hurting people, that I have learned the most.

The one lesson that looms above the rest is this: There is to be only one great, lifelong, consuming love affair for a child of God and it is to be with the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. God Himself wants to be our first love object.”

Each time a hurting person comes to me for counseling and prayer, the Holy Spirit will urge me to tell her, “Listen, just open your heart to Jesus and love Him and have Him love you back.” Or I would say, “No, right now your need is not to be reconciled with Michael or jean or whoever. Your need right now is to love Jesus with all of your heart and have Him love you in return.”

And over and over again, I have seen the miracle happen:

THAT WHEN PEOPLE DARE TO MAKE GOD THEIR FIRST LOVE, SITUATIONS AND CIRCUMSTANCES CHANGE FOR THEM OR THEY THEMSELVES CHANGE AND THIS IS SO MUCH BETTER!

Praise God!

Yes, God does want to be our first love. We see this in the first book of the Bible, Genesis, where God tested the heart of Abraham by asking him to sacrifice his only son !…One can see plainly that God was not after Abraham’s son, BUT HE WAS AFTER ABRAHAM’S HEART.

To all who are reading this book, my prayer for you is that you will find healing and emotional wholeness from the God Who Himself has drawn you to Him. I am praying for you. You will find healing for that broken heart as surely as Jesus rose from the grave. The grave had no power to bind Jesus Christ and just like the grave, hurts have no power to bind you or hold you because you are a child of God…

How to deal with your broken heart and rise above your hurt?

how to deal with your broken heart
how to deal with your broken heart

This book by Pastor Susan Tang is on my “must read End Times Books List”. It is not online so I quote some excerpts (mainly from Chapter/Step Seven, “Forgive !”) here and share with the readers of this blog. The author wrote this book mainly for women who hurt, but men hurt too, she was told. Please be encouraged to read the whole book. To all who are reading this book, the author’s prayer is that “you will find healing and emotional wholeness from the God Who Himself has drawn you to Him”.

You will find that, quoting from the book,

“In ourselves, we cannot bring down the wall of unforgiveness. The hurt is so deep and the bitterness defiles so many, but God can help us. God can energize us to do the impossible.”

Excerpts from the book: ____________________

A personal word (from the author, 2008): “When I wrote this book 14 years ago, I had no idea that God would take it so far to touch and heal so many lives…At least three suicides have been aborted and many readers have found relief and a new beginning through the pages of this book. Thank you Lord, for prompting me to writing it.”

“This touching testimony came from a British woman married to an Indian man. She had left everything, including breaking family ties to follow her husband back to this country. After two years of marriage, he left her for another woman and she sank into depression and attempted suicide twice. A friend in England sent her this book! She told me she read it twice and started to heal. She came out of depression and is now serving in a counseling center for battered wives…

“Another testimony came from a woman who had a fifteen-year relationship with a man. When he returned to his wife, she was ready to jump from the balcony of her sixth floor apartment. Someone gave her this book and she read it many, many times. God brought her healing through the pages and today she is moving on -she has a good job and new friends…and I am one of them.”

“These are just two of the women I have met face to face; there are many more out there…

“Pain and sorrow is a powerful language -It has a way of speaking to us, of penetrating below our surface to change us, mould us, shape us…to make better (or worse) people out of us. Yes, may all of us who have had a broken heart experience come out of it and be a better person. May we also in times of pain, learn to identify with God for God is a God who knows pain and sorrow…”

Chapter/Step Seven: FORGIVE !

We need and need and need, many times over, God’s divine energy and supernatural power to help us forgive. What is life without forgiveness?

A. Forgiving God

Each time a Christian is hurt, I believe there are actually two parties that she needs to forgive (sometimes maybe even three, including the self). We need to forgive the person who has hurt us and we need to forgive God for allowing us that hurt.

When we ask, “Why, Lord?” we are actually asking God why He did not stop or prevent it. Therefor if NEED BE, we also need to forgive God if we think God has wronged us or that He is to be blamed for all our troubles.

I have to convince many people that God is not behind their troubles. God is not against them but they refused to believe it. Perhaps you are one of the foolish ones. If we were to take it then that God really is the one causing you all these mishaps, can you forgive Him? We are concerned about your healing, we are not concerned about God’s ego or hurting God. God is more concerned for your healing and your being wholesome.

If Jesus could take all those beatings, shame and humiliation on the cross to bring you wholesomeness and healing, what is this little chip of misunderstanding and blame to Him?…

So many people say, in the midst of their hurts, that they cannot reach out for God…unless you forgive, you cannot have communication. So, if you think you need it, for your own good and healing, say, “God, I forgive You.”

B. Forgiving the person or persons who inflicted the hurt

Yes, forgiving the person who has hurt us is not easy, not even natural. It draws up blood and guts and everything else from within us.

Take for example, the case of Linda, a 22 year old girl I met not long ago. Married for just eight months, her husband deserted her for her best friend. Her best friend had seen him…at a party and commented to another friend, “I won’t give up until I have him.” It took her just five months…and Linda’s husband fell into her arms…

Linda, hurt to her very core, attempted suicide twice but did not die. Both times she was hospitalized…

When Linda came to see me, something within me wanted to withdraw from her. Her hurt and pain were almost tangible and definitely contagious. And yes, Linda couldn’t forgive. I told her she had to choose between forgiveness and hell. She surprised me by replying that she preferred to go to hell (“I am already in it now.’) since going to hell required no effort but forgiving did.

Emotionally, Linda was devastated. Satan had taken advantage of the situation to turn her hurt into something really ugly and demonic, making her negative, impenetrable and defiant, even to those who sincerely wanted to help her.

Physically, she was just awful. (bloodshot eyes, foul breath, hair matted, lipstick caked on parched lips, jagged nails, perfume soured on her dress…)

That 40 minutes or so of ministry was very, very difficult…and because of her self imposed isolation was so deep. I felt I could not reach her to bring hope to her battered, broken spirit -but God, what a God! Praise to Him Who specializes in impossibilities!

God was with us that afternoon although I had a hard time feeling His presence…when I weakly asked Linda (not expecting a positive reply, actually) if she wanted prayer, she nodded.

Before we could finish praying, Linda fell onto the floor, hard as the Lord’s Spirit came over her and she cried inaudibly, with just a few tiny drops of tears trickling down the corners of her eyes. She got up a few minutes later, obviously embarrassed and shocked to find herself sprawled on the cement floor. She just bolted out of the door and disappeared! I lost contact with her after that.

Four months later, one evening when I was having dinner at a Chinese restaurant, I saw somebody sitting across from my table who looked so much like her. “No, it couldn’t be,” I thought to myself. “This one is fatter. She’s laughing and she looks well. No, it can’t be her.”

But I was wrong and it was Linda. I walked over to say “Hi” and did not ask further…she squeezed my hand as I was about to leave and said, “Everything’s okay now. I forgave that ***bastard and I decided I should let him go. Better now than when I have children…God really did touch me that day and helped me to forgive that ***bastard and also that ***girlfriend of his!”

Praise the Lord! She found victory! She found release! She found forgiveness and she found life! But, of course, she still needed to change her language!

We need and need and need, many times over, God’s divine energy and supernatural power to help us forgive. What is life without forgiveness?

If we go by feelings, there is no way we can move this mountain and make progress…i learned then that forgiveness is not just a feeling, but action!

AS LONG AS YOU WANT TO FORGIVE, DO NOT BE BOTHERED BY THE FEELINGS -ACT AGAINST THEM! These feelings, like the mighty walls of Jericho, will soon collapse as you obey the word of the Lord and act against them.

There is no need to feel condemned if you still have all these feelings of unforgiveness. The important thing is to make sure that there is a beginning to your wanting to forgive.

“In ourselves, we cannot bring down the wall of unforgiveness. The hurt is so deep and the bitterness defiles so many, but God can help us. God can energize us to do the impossible.”

Those who do not forgive may have such high prices to pay: ill health, cancer, ulcers, arthritis, premature death etc.

So, forgive with God’s help. Pick up the hammer today and start to bring that wall down. God will be right there to help you.

expose the battle in your mind and deal with it God’s way!

Spiritual AuthorityAlbumAndrew Wommack

Please take a minute to read this letter I recently received from a 19-year-old girl.

Dear Mr. Wommack, I realize that you must receive frequent letters regarding your ministry. But even with that knowledge, I feel compelled to write. I’ve just finished listening to your audio series entitled “Spiritual Authority,” and it has changed my life.

When I was in junior high, I became involved in Wicca, or Paganism. For two- and-a-half years I toyed with the powers of Satan, calling on numerous demons to do my bidding. Not only was I demon possessed, but I was heavily into drugs and alcohol. A few months before I became a Christian, I began to realize that I was no longer in control. In fact, I was the one being controlled. My free will was so entangled with Satan’s deception that I lost the ability to think for myself.

On August 29, 1996, I accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior. At the moment I confessed my sin and gave my life to God, He delivered me from the demons, drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, and sexual relationships I was involved in. I thought I was rid of Satan’s power for good.

It wasn’t long before fear started to overcome me. The demons I once fellowshipped with tormented me day and night. I could see them in the corner of my room while I was trying to sleep. When I was outside at night, I could feel their presence. After a while, I began to cope with it, and it became an everyday part of my life. I knew they couldn’t touch me, but I was terrified nonetheless.

Almost four years after my conversion, I was still dealing with these demonic forces. It was only when I listened to your series that I understood the power and authority I have over them. Instead of literally hiding under my blankets at night for fear of the demon in the corner of my room, I smile, say a quick prayer of praise to God, and fall asleep.

Your illustration of how we sometimes picture demons was of particular interest to me. You say that we picture them as towering beasts with claws and such, when in reality they are sniveling, little things. That is so true! The only power they have is the power we give them. What a blessing to finally realize that! My outlook on life has totally changed, thanks to your willingness to be used of God. If it were not for the godly truths of your ministry, I would still be enslaved by my fear.

I am now actively pursuing the calling God placed on my life, a calling to ministry. I am excited and anxious for the future and the things that God will be able to accomplish through my obedience. My Christian walk is stronger than ever before, and my friends constantly ask what’s different about me. They don’t seem to grasp that a nineteen-year-old can be so in love with God that it’s physically evident.

Again I thank you for your willingness to step out in faith and be used of God. God, through you, has touched my life and, I’m sure, the lives of countless others. I’m looking forward to listening to your other teachings. Tori from PA

Isn’t that awesome! Praise the Lord for the power of the truth and how it sets us free (John 8:32). The only power that Satan has is the power of deception, and the worst thing about deception is that you don’t know you’re being deceived. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be deception. Once the truth is received, deception loses all its power. Therefore, Satan loses all his power when we know the truth.

Many people don’t know the truth about Satan’s defeat. In fact, many Christians are the very instrument the devil is using to foster the deception that he is still a powerful foe. “Spiritual warfare” is one of the hottest topics in the church today. People are expending great amounts of energy constantly battling the devil in ways contrary to Scripture, but in reality, Satan has already been defeated. We don’t need to defeat him again.

We need to believe that Satan has already been completely destroyed (Heb. 2:14) and simply enforce his defeat. The only power he has is the power to deceive. Our battle should be against the wiles (trickery) of the devil (Eph. 6:11), not the devil himself. Any other approach is actually giving the devil authority and power which he doesn’t have, and he uses that to intimidate us. The only weapon Satan has is the power we give him when we believe his lies.

Warfare only takes place between two undefeated foes. Once an enemy has been conquered, the war is over. Satan is a defeated foe.

Colossians 2:15 says, “And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.” The archaic meaning of the word “spoiled” here is “to plunder; despoil” (American Heritage Dictionary). This means that after Jesus defeated Satan, He stripped him of everything he had, specifically the keys of death and hell (Rev. 1:18). Satan has no power to imprison anyone.

The Greek word that was translated “shew” in this verse (Col 2:15) is “deigmatizo” which means “to exhibit” (Strong). This comes from the root word “deigma” which means “a specimen (as shown)” (ibid.). Satan is like one of those bugs we had to capture for biology class. We caught it and then impaled it on a board with a little pin to exhibit it. You need to picture the devil nailed to the cross of Jesus like a bug on display. Hallelujah! Take that, Mr. Devil!

The Greek word that was translated “triumphing over” in Colossians 2:15 is especially significant. It means “to make an acclamatory procession” (ibid.). This is specifically referring to the way the Romans had a “triumphant procession” after they had defeated their enemies.

Upon conquering an enemy, the Romans would hold a parade. They would take the conquered king, strip him naked, and drag him through the crowd behind the conquering king or commander for all their subjects to see. He would be humiliated and insulted, but that’s not all. They would also cut off the thumbs of his hands and the big toes of both feet. This was to assure the subjects this enemy would never be a threat to any of them again. He could not hold a sword and he would never be able to run again. There was no need to fear him any more. Any rumor about him ever challenging Rome again would be scoffed at because the citizens had seen him in the parade.

The same thing happened to the devil. That’s what this verse is referring to. Jesus not only beat the devil, but He had a triumphant procession to display the devil to the universe as a totally conquered foe. Satan should never terrify us again. Unfortunately, many Christians have missed the parade. They haven’t seen God’s triumphant procession that was pictured in God’s Word where Satan was displayed as a totally defeated foe. They are circulating rumors that Satan is a powerful foe to be reckoned with. That’s not so.

Satan is still alive, and we do have to reckon with him but only because he has so many lies circulating about his power against us. These are all lies, and therein lies Satan’s power. If we believe his lies, he then uses our own authority, which our fear grants him, to work his destruction in our lives. He has no power of his own. He’s using the power and authority that our misdirected faith gives him.

When I was just beginning my walk with the Lord, I came into the knowledge that demons do exist, and they are not all in Africa. We encounter demons often, and they are the workers of much of the evil we see every day. At first, this caused a fear in me that actually gave these demons in-roads into my life. On one hand, I was resisting them, but through fear I was also empowering them.

An example of this happened to me in Arlington, Texas, where I grew up. I was in love with the Lord and wanting to minister to people. I decided to open up what I called “Arlington Christian Center.” It was going to be a home where people who were being controlled by things like alcohol, drugs, sex, etc. could come and stay while we broke the power of the devil over them and helped set them free. I rented a two-story house, right on the edge of the University of Texas at Arlington campus, and started fixing it up.

This house had been a fraternity house, and there had been a lot of demonic activity in the house prior to our occupancy. The people were gone, but not all the demons were. There were some strange things about that place. One night I was working up there at 1 a.m., and some demons attacked me. There was no one in that house except me, but I was being hit and choked, and I was fighting for my life.

I ran out of that house and got in my car and backed out of the driveway. I was ready to “burn rubber” and get as far away from there as possible. Just before I got the car into drive, I heard the Lord say to me, “What are you doing?” I told Him I was getting away from that place as fast as I could. He then reminded me of the Christian’s armor that was described in Ephesians 6:10-18, and He said, “There isn’t any armor to cover your back.”

I knew what He meant. He was saying that the armor He had given me only worked when I faced the devil, not if I turned and ran. I thought, Lord, You couldn’t want me to go back into that place and face those devils. He never said anything else to me. I pulled back into the driveway and thought about that for what seemed to be an eternity. Finally, I got out of the car and walked back into that house. I spent the rest of the night fighting off fear and those physical attacks of the devil. When I left in the morning, the demons were gone, and there was a supernatural peace in that place.

During that time, I had a lot of demonic attacks against me. I had dreams where demons would attack me, and I would wake up bleeding from those encounters. They weren’t just in my mind. I was being physically attacked. That also happened one night in Louisiana at a Bible conference. It felt like I was being choked to death. I won, but these demonic encounters were not fun.

Then one day as I was praying and binding every demon on every continent, it dawned on my lightning-fast mind that I was actually spending more time in my prayers talking to the devil and rebuking him than I was talking to the Lord. I knew that wasn’t right. The Lord began to reveal to me that all my attention on the devil was actually giving him these in-roads into my life, which caused all these attacks.

I repented and changed my thinking and focus and guess what? It’s now been at least thirty years, and I have never had another demonic manifestation in my life. I have seen demons manifest around me in other people, and I’ve cast them out, but those personal attacks stopped nearly instantly. There has never been another one because the only reason Satan’s imps were able to manifest like that to me in the first place was because of the fear I released toward them. The fear is gone, and therefore, so is their power.

This is an awesome revelation and one that is not the dominant theological position on Satan and demons today. This truth desperately needs to be communicated throughout the body of Christ.

Journey to See God: Seeing God intimately

Life is more interesting, never dull when one lives in the Spirit and walks by the Spirit, just as the apostles had experienced during the time of the early churches (as in the book of Acts). Without the leading of the Holy Spirit, one cannot possibly understand the Bible, the watchman has thus discovered.

The Bible is all about God. The Holy Spirit has come to show us how to see God. Reading John 7 and 8 has revealed new truth to the watchman. The truth is just there, all over the pages as he sees through the eyes of his spirit.

________________________Here is his brief note on 10-14-2012:

The Bible is all about God, revealing Himself to man, not the other way round. God takes initiative: set time, ‘when’, ‘whom he sent’, ‘for what purpose’. But man looks at ‘what’, ‘where’, ‘who is who’ all in the physical.

How does Jesus describes His focused intimate relationship, interactions and identification with God? (Just read the following list. The words ‘He’, ‘His’, ‘Him’ are used to denote God.)

‘He sent’, ‘He knows’, “in His time’, “His will’, ‘He teaches’, ‘comes from Him’, ‘His truth’, ‘learn from Him’, ‘return to Him’, ‘He speaks the truth’, ‘seek to honor Him’, ‘with Him’, ‘know who He is’, ‘belong to Him’, ‘from above’ (where God is), ‘not of the world below’ (where man is), ‘heard from Him’, ‘completely truthful’, ‘always do what please Him’, ‘do nothing on one’s own’, ‘say only what ones hears from Him’, ‘sent by Him’, ‘set sinners free’ (do His work), ‘saw what He did’, ‘tell the truth’, ‘come from God’,’consistent with God’s character’, ‘belong to God’, ‘listen gladly to the words of God’, ‘honor God’, ‘no demon in Him’, ‘no wish to glorify self’, ‘obey His teaching’, ‘know God’ and ‘obey Him’, ‘know Him and His Son’, know He is ‘I AM’.

______________________Relevant excerpts from “Spiritual Intimacy  & Communion”(from “Demands of Love” book by Susan Tang)

“The early Christians did not pick up spirits as easily as we do now because they were serious Christians who had a strong river of Spirit-life running inside them. They believed in spiritual communion and intimacy with God and spent time in serious prayer daily. They were people who knew how to drink long and deep at the Living Fountain. That was why they had no problems with demons..”

“Ministry today is dangerous because the emphasis is all on the outward _ the size of the church, the numbers, the performance, the buildings. Satan will be happy to give us these (and he can) provided he can keep us away from “The Drink”.”

SPIRITUAL INTIMACY (book by Susan Tang)

MORE EXCERPTS: Psalm 143: 11

Quicken me O Lord, for thy name’s sake: for thy righteousness’ sake bring my soul out of trouble.

The word, ‘quicken’ actually means ‘to make alive.’ Many people, even Christians, lose their will to live because they cannot take the m and the pressure. When David lost the will to carry on, he screamed out to God many times, “O God, make me live!” He would not give way to suicide because he knew life came from God and it was not right for him to end it himself.

There is such power in intimacy with God. Even when David lost the will to live, he realized he could still carry on living when he allowed God to impact into him the purpose of living – to live for Him! Through intimacy with God, David knew he had a destiny to fulfill, and this gave him the strength to carry on. Yes, we can definitely derive meaning and strength to live on when we know intimacy with Father God.

“The common Christian today knows everything from prophecy to anointing, from home cells to music, from miracles to visitations, from missions to running errands etc. but they simply cannot enter into intimacy with the Lord or prevail in His presence. Seeking His face is just too much for them.” [Read More]
